Angry resident burn army base in Far North Cameroon

Xinhua, October 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

A Cameroonian army base was razed down on Wednesday night in Cameroon's Far North region of Maga during clashes between soldiers and angry local residents.

A local administrator contacted by Xinhua on Thursday said the residents were protesting against the excessive restrictive measures taken by the soldiers under the guise of fighting against Boko Haram terror group.

The source said the attack at the Rapid Intervention Brigade camp in this region that neighbors Chad, had led to destruction of containers of grenades and ammunition.

The angry residents set the camp on fire following the death of a motorcycle rider who was shot at by soldiers who were executing the measures restricting movement at night.

The clashes which forced the governor of Far North region Midjiwa Bakari to visit the area to calm the people down, left one soldier injured and several other military equipments, including vehicles, set ablaze.

Calm is said to have been restored in the area, but defense and security forces have remained on high alert. Endit
