Bomb blast damages local radio in S. Afghanistan

Unknown armed men attacked a local radio in southern Kandahar province, a former Taliban stronghold with a bomb blast Thursday night and damaged the broadcasting apparatus, director of the media outlet Agha Shir Minar said Friday.

"Some unidentified people placed explosive device at the entry gate of Radio Sanga in Kandahar city late Thursday night and detonated it damaging the radio station," Minar told Xinhua.

However, Minar avoided providing more details.

Meantime, spokesman for Kandahar provincial government, Samim Khapalwak in talks with Xinhua denounced the blast as an attack on press freedom, and said that the enemies of peace, a reference to the Taliban militants are behind the bomb blast against local radio the Sanga.

Taliban militants fighting the government have yet to make comment. Enditem
