Nikkei soars 2.11 pct amid ECB hint at new stimulus

Tokyo stocks rose 2.11 percent to a nearly two-month high Friday after European Central Bank President Mario Draghi hinted at the bank further easing its monetary grip later this year.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 389.43 points, or 2.11 percent, from Thursday to 18,825.30, its highest level since Aug. 31. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange soared 29.62 points, or 1.95 percent, to 1,547.84.

Shares rose across the board, with foods, real estate and brokerage sectors leading the way.

The turnover was 2,564.25 billion yen (about 21.25 billion yen). Endit
