U.S. reports slight rise in house prices

Xinhua, October 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

U.S. house prices continued appreciation in August by 0.3 percent from July, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) said Thursday.

According to the FHFA monthly House Price Index (HPI), U.S. house prices rose 0.3 percent in August on a monthly basis. Compared with the same period last year, house prices have increased by 5.5 percent.

Two of the nine census divisions suffered price decline compared with July, while on an annual basis all the divisions witnessed growth from 2.2 percent in the Middle Atlantic division to 8.3 percent in the Mountain division.

The FHFA measured changes in real estate values using purchases of properties with mortgages backed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, the two U.S. federal housing mortgage-finance giants. It did not provide a specific price for houses. Endit
