Russian PM to make landmark visit to Cambodia next month

Xinhua, October 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said Thursday that his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev will pay a landmark visit to Cambodia next month to boost bilateral ties and cooperation.

"If there is no any change, the Russian prime minister will pay a visit to Phnom Penh on Nov. 23 and 24," he said in a speech during the inauguration ceremony of a Chinese-built bridge here.

The visit will mark Russia's highest-level visit to Cambodia yet after Nikolay Nikiforov, Russian minister of communications and mass media, visited in July.

Cambodia and Russia have been strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation through the exchange of high-level visits. In March this year, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong visited Russia and signed several agreements, which focused on bilateral cooperation in economics, investment protection, tourism, and prevention of illegal fishing of living marine resources.

Later in May, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Kheng made a visit to Moscow and inked an intergovernmental memorandum of understanding on counter-terrorism. Endit
