IMF to support Mozambique social and economic plan

Head of the International Monetary Fund(IMF) mission Michel Lazare on a tour of Mozambique said on Wednesday that the international financial institution will support Mozambique's next year's Social and Economic Plan.
The plan was approved by the cabinet, the Council of Ministers a few months' ago, after it was presented and approved by the country's Parliament, the Assembly of the Republic.
Lazare told reporters in Maputo that the IMF has always supported the government's plans aimed at developing Mozambique's economy sabotaged by the ended civil war.
The plan envisages the building of more schools, hospitals, health units, roads and bridges, the rehabilitation of several infrastructures, among other programs.
Lazare and his delegation will hold talks with finance and economy Minister Adriano Maliane to discuss the economic growth in Mozambique.
The IMF mission will be visiting several economic projects in which it is involved. The IMF is mainly involved in the infrastructural projects, such as roads and bridges, under bilateral cooperation with Mozambique.
The international financial institution praised Mozambique for its annual growth which stands at more than 7 percent. But it warned that the government must do more in the fight against poverty both in urban and rural areas.
According to a communique from the IMF Maputo office, the mission will end its tour of Mozambique on Wednesday next week. Endit
