Xinhua, October 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Russian embassy in the capital Damascus has no information on claims that Russian soldiers were killed in Syria's coastal city of Latakia, a source in the embassy told Xinhua.

The source said the has no knowledge of any information about claims circulated by some activist groups that three Russian soldiers were killed during militant groups' shelling on the Jabal Younes area in the countryside of Latakia, where the Russian air forces are stationing.

Meanwhile, a senior military officer also said there is no information on the claims, suggesting they are untrue.

Earlier in the day, the state news agency SANA said the Russian air force in cooperation with the Syrian air force carried out 55 airstrikes against the terror groups' positions in several Syrian areas over the past 24 hours, targeting 60 rebel positions and bases.

The Russian air force has been striking the militant groups' positions in Syria since late September, with Syrian government officials hailing the Russian strikes in stemming the momentum of the radical rebel groups. Endit
