21 Taliban militants, 6 soldiers killed in Afghanistan

Xinhua, October 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

About 21 Taliban militants had been killed while 12 others wounded amid operations carried out by Afghan security forces over the last 24 hours, the Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

The joint operations were conducted by army, police and intelligence agency personnel in Kandahar, Helmand, Kapisa and Ghazni provinces, the ministry said in a statement.

The security forces seized weapons and defused several rounds of roadside bombs planted by the militants.

A total of six army personnel lost their lives as a result of enemy's heavy weapons firing and roadside bomb attacks within the same period, the statement confirmed.

"During the raids, the troops also detained four armed insurgents," the ministry said.

The Taliban militant group has yet to make comments.

Afghan security forces have pressed on clearing the militants in restive provinces as Taliban militants have been attempting to take more territory and consolidate their positions ahead of winter in the mountainous Central Asian country. Endit
