Iraqi air forces on Sunday struck a convoy of Islamic State (IS) top leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in the western province of Anbar, but Baghdadi's fate is unknown, the military said.

"The Iraqi air forces managed to bomb the convoy of criminal terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi while he was travelling in Karabla area near the town of Qaim on border with Syria," a statement said. (Iraq-IS)

JOHANNESBURG -- The ruling African National Congress (ANC) on Sunday announced its decision to withdraw South Africa's membership from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The decision was made at a meeting of the ruling party's National General Council (NGC), said Obed Bapela, Head of the ANC's International Relations Commission. (SA-ICC)

MOSCOW -- Russian President Vladimir Putin ruled out on Sunday the possibility of sending Russian troops for ground operations in Russia's ongoing military intervention in the war-torn Syria.

ANKARA -- Forty-nine rebels of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) were killed in the military operations in southeastern Turkey and northern Iraq on Saturday and Sunday, a Turkish military statement said.

A total of 14 PKK members were killed during air raids on Saturday in southeastern Lice town of Diyarbakir and 35 PKK members were killed on Sunday during the air raids in Metina and Zap regions in northern Iraq, according to the statement issued by the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces. KUNDUZ, Afghanistan -- Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) on Sunday made fresh gains against Taliban militants in Kunduz city, capital of Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province, and have evicted the armed insurgents from some 60 percent of the city, officials said.

"The ANSF has cleared major parts of the city. Army and police forces made advances and wiped out militants' pockets in outer sides of the city overnight, killing and injuring dozens of terrorists," Brigadier General Ghulam Sakhi Ghafoori, a senior commander of Afghan Public Order Police Force, told Xinhua.
