Roundup: Vietnam concludes party meeting with focus on personnel for upcoming leadership

Xinhua, October 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

The 12th plenary of the 11th Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) with focus on discussion of personnel for the upcoming leadership concluded here on Sunday.

During the meeting, which started on Oct. 5, a report on personnel plans for the politburo, the secretariat and key leaders for the next tenure was submitted by the politburo to the CPVCC for the first time for discussion.

Speaking in his closing remarks, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong said the CPVCC has discussed and considered objectively and comprehensively the personnel plans, and has analyzed, given comments and made supplements to the report, Vietnam's state-run news agency quoted Trong as saying.

The CPVCC "basically agreed with the report of the politburo and also discussed and proposed opinions on criteria for considering 'special' cases of re-election of current members of the CPVCC, politburo and secretariat, as well as specific criteria for positions of CPV general secretary, state president, prime minister and chairman of national assembly," Trong said.

The CPVCC also voted for the first round of a list of proposed new personnel for 12th tenure of CPVCC, proposed a list of current CPVCC members who meet the criteria to be re-elected for the next CPVCC tenure, as well as a list of personnel who meet the criteria to be elected for the politburo and secretariat in the 2016-2021 tenure.

The CPVCC agreed that the discussion and high consensus reached over the issues serve as an important foundation to decide specific personnel plans, Trong said, urging politburo and the personnel sub-committee of the CPVCC to review and finalize personnel plans to resubmit to later CPVCC meetings.

On the election of deputies to the National Assembly (NA) and People's Council at all levels for the new tenure, Trong said 500 individuals needed to be elected with quality and qualifications as the top priority. The election of deputies of NA and People's Council at all levels will be held on the same day.

"The 12th plenary of the 11th CPVCC successfully closed. The effectively implementation of the resolution of this meeting will contribute positively to fulfilling the socio-economic development targets for 2015 and build plan for 2016, as well as completing the personnel plan for the next CPVCC tenure," Trong said.

The 12th Party Congress to form the new CPVCC is set to be held in 2016. Endi
