Slovenian protesters urge EU to reject trade agreements

Xinhua, October 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Slovenians staged protests against transatlantic trade agreements with the United States and Canada in several cities across Slovenia on Saturday, reported the Slovenian Press Agency (STA).

In the Ljubljana city centre alone, some 150 people gathered calling on the Slovenian and other EU governments to reject the TTIP, CETA and TiSA agreements, the STA report said.

The rallies, which also took place in the second largest city of Maribor, cities of Koper and Trbovlje, are a part of an EU-wide protest against the transatlantic trade agreements.

"We are telling the government that we do not accept these agreement, we do not want them and expect our government and others across the world to reject them," said Andrej Gnezda of Umanotera NGO, a member of the Coalition against Secret Agreements, which organised the protest.

The STA reports also quoted one of the leader of the protests as saying that some 3.2 millions of public signatures against the trade agreements had recently been collected and the number of that handed over to the European Commission were even bigger. Endit
