Koirala, Oli nominated as candidates in prime ministerial election in Nepal

Xinhua, October 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two major political parties on Saturday fielded their candidacies for a prime ministerial election scheduled for tomorrow in the Nepali Parliament.

The Nepali Congress, the largest political party in the parliament registered nomination of its president Mr. Sushil Koirala as its candidate, while the CPN (UML), the second largest party, nominated its party chairman Mr. K.P Sharma Oli for the election.

The third largest party in the parliament, United Communist Party of Nepal(Maoist), has backed the CPN (UML) Chairman Oli for the upcoming election. However, Mr. Koirala has been nominated from the Nepali Congress alone without any support from any other party.

One candidate should secure a simple majority to win the prime ministerial race in Nepal, according to the country's newly- promulgated new Constitution.

Mr. Koirala had submitted his resignation as the incumbent prime minister on Friday afternoon before fielding candidacy for the post of prime minister for the second time. Endit
