Editor's note:Huang Huiying, 66, lives in Shatang Village, Lingui County in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Her husband died in a traffic accident in 2001, leaving her three mentally-retarded children – two sons aged 39 and 36 and a daughter aged 29. Worse yet, her two sons suffer from muscular atrophy which makes them unable to control their bodies' balance or even walk. Huang's daughter married a local man, gave birth to two healthy girls, but later divorced her as the man couldn't bear the extremely poverty-stricken and downtrodden family. During the long years, Huang has endured all kinds of hardships, struggling to bring up her children and grandchildren.
