Palestinian flag to be raised at UN headquarters at Geneva

Xinhua, October 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

The flag of Palestine will be raised at the Office of the United Nations at Geneva (UNOG) during a ceremony to be held on Oct. 13, UNOG's information office said here Friday.

The ceremony is being organized in accordance with a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on Sept. 10, whereby the flags of non-member observer states can now be flown at United Nations headquarters and offices around the world.

The resolution was adopted by an overwhelming majority of UN member states.

According to the information office, UNOG director general Michael Moller will take part in the event, as well as representatives of the permanent observer mission of Palestine to the UN Office at Geneva and other international organizations.

Riad Al-Maliki, Palestine's Minister of Foreign Affairs, has confirmed he would be attending the flag-raising ceremony.

The flag of Palestine was raised at UN headquarters in New York for the first time on Sept. 30. Endit
