The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) announced Thursday that the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) will welcome visitors to discover exotic fragrances and tastes from seven selected projects from around the world during this year's Swiss Agriculture and Food Fair (OLMA).

The selected stands will showcase SDC's efforts to reduce global poverty and hunger through sustainable and environmentally sound agriculture, a spokesperson from the FDFA said.

According to the spokesperson, assistance will be provided by SDC to farmers who are looking to develop cooperatives and improve their organisational structure so that their products can be sold at the very least on the local market.

Though representing the largest sector of the world's economy with one third of all working people employed in agriculture, 70 percent of the world's poor work in the latter.

Held in the Swiss town of St Gallen, this year's OLMA will take place between Oct. 8 and Oct. 18. Endit
