Tunisia's Parliament Member Ridha Charfeddine survived an assassination attempt on Thursday in the country's northern coastal city of Sousse, according to local security sources.
Charfeddine, a member of the Nidaa Tounes party that won the 2014 legislative elections and well-known businessman, was on his way to work in his car in the morning, when he was shot by at least two unknown gunmen, the sources said.
"I feel like I was born again," he said after the attack.
The Interior Ministry said that the gunmen have not been identified and an investigation is underway.
Tunisia has seen several assassinations in recent years. In February 2013, politician Chokri Belaid was killed; five months later, a member of the legislative body, the National Constituent Assembly, Mohamed Brahmi was assassinated in front of his home in the capital Tunis.
The assassinations triggered government reshuffle following mass protests and a national dialogue was held among prominent society organizations and political parties. The new government was appointed until the 2014 elections.
The coastal city of Sousse is still recovering from the aftermath of the deadly terrorist attack at a beach resort in June 2015 which left 38 tourists killed and 38 wounded and severely affected the country's tourism industry. Endit
