Singapore General Hospital (SGH) has contacted nearly half of the patients who had stayed in renal wards that were affected by Hepatitis C virus, local media reported on Thursday.
According to Channel NewsAsia, SGH said that it has contacted 298 patients out of 678 patients who were admitted to Wards 64A and 67 from January to June 2015.
The hospital has screened the doctors and nurses who provided direct care to renal patients, and extended the screening to other doctors who covered the ward during the period. A total of 169 out of 273 staff have been screened up to now.
SGH added that since the announcement of Hepatitis C infections, 157 patients who didn't stay in the affected ward during the period have called to inquire about the Hepatitis C cluster. As the virus is not air-borne, they were reassured that patients in other wards and visitors need not be screened.
22 patients have been diagnosed with the Hepatitis C virus at SGH, among which four have died possibly from the disease, said the hospital at a press conference on Tuesday. Endi
