Indian Air Force to have women fighter pilots

Xinhua, October 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Indian Air Force will soon have women fighter jet pilots, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha said on Thursday.

"We have women pilots flying transport aircraft and helicopters, we are now planning to induct them into the fighter stream to meet the aspirations of young women of India," the Air Force chief said during the celebrations of 83rd Air Force Day at Hindon Air Base near the Indian capital.

The Indian Air Force has so far not let women pilots fly fighter jets due to fears that they may be tortured if captured in combat. Endi
