Colombian Osorio to coach Mexico's national soccer team

Xinhua, October 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio confirmed he will lead Mexico's national soccer team, and said good-bye to Brazilian club Sao Paulo, where he was coach, local press reported Wednesday.

"Beginning from now I announce my formal relation with Mexico's national team, I will seek the great goal of qualifying to World Cup," said Osorio in a press conference cited by local media.

Osorio, 54, admitted it was difficult for him to decide leaving Sao Paulo, after leading the Brazilian club, currently fifth in the local league, to semifinals in Copa do Brasil, a tournament that grants the ticket for Copa Libertadores.

"As everybody knows, I made all to finish the season, but it was impossible. My consciousness is clean and I know I gave the best and I leave a team in very good conditions to play Copa do Brasil and 'Brasileirao'," he said.

Osorio said "in first place, I want to thank Brazil and its people," and also expressed his gratitude to the club "for believing that a group of Colombians could contribute to the success of Brazilian football." Endi
