Vietnam's HCM City sunk in sudden haze

Both the outlying and downtown areas of Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City have been covered with opalescent haze over the past two days.

According to the city-based Southern Hydro-Meteorology Station on Wednesday, the sudden phenomenon is dry haze caused by air pollution. Breezes gather dust particles and drive them around in low areas, creating haze.

Dry haze is forecast to last in the next few days, said the station. It is harmful to human health, especially to respiratory tracts.

The phenomenon in Ho Chi Minh City and the neighboring province of Ba Ria Vung Tau is partly due to the haze crisis caused by forest fires in Indonesia, local newspaper Tuoi Tre Thanh pho Ho Chi Minh (Ho Chi Minh City Youth) on Wednesday quoted a local meteorology expert named Le Thi Xuan Lan as saying.

"The burning of forests in Indonesia has blanketed many Southeast Asian countries in haze, especially areas of low latitude that sit close to Indonesia like Vietnam's southern localities," she said. Endi
