British new car sales pass two million mark in September

Xinhua, October 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

British new car registrations grew 8.6 percent annually in September to 462,517 units, said the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) on Tuesday.

The total number of new cars sold in 2015 so far reached 2,096,886, the first time that the two million mark has been passed in September since 2004, according to the SMMT's monthly release.

Ford Fiesta was on the top of the best sellers, with 22,807 units being sold in September. Other best sellers included Vauxhall Corsa, Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf and Volkswagen Polo, etc.

"With plenty of attractive, affordable deals available on the new 65-plate, Britain's car buyers, whether private, fleet or business consumers, were busier than ever," said Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive.

"The market reached pre-recession levels some time ago, and we anticipate some levelling off in the coming months. It is too early to draw conclusions, but customer demand for diesel remained strong, accounting for one in two cars registered," he added. Endit
