Ugandan boxer disqualified at Aiba World Boxing event in Qatar

Xinhua, October 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Uganda's light flyweight Fazil Juma Kaggwa has been disqualified from the Aiba World Championships in Doha, Qatar because of extra weight.

Kenneth Gimugo, Chairman of Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation told Xinhua on Tuesday that this reduces the country's chances of qualifying boxers for the 2016 Olympic Games.

The Aiba World Championships which will bring together boxers from all over the world runs from Oct. 6-18 and will act as a qualifier for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

After a fair performance at the African Boxing Confederation Championship in Morocco, Uganda qualified five boxers for the Doha event, but only three traveled to Doha.

Uganda's Rogers Semitala (bantamweight) will now face Padilla Bennet Segundo (Ecudour) in the first round, while Hassan Abdul (lightweight) takes on North Korea's Kwon Chol Guk. Endit
