A court in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Tuesday found four men guilty and sent them to jail, the first verdict in which BiH citizens were connected with fighting in Syria and Iraq for the Islamic State (IS) group.
Husein Erdic was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison while Midhat Trako received a 1.5-year sentence. The other two men, Nevad Husidic and Merim Keserovic, were each given one-year prison terms.
According to the court, Erdic provided help for Husidic and Keserovic in their bid to join the IS in Syria and Iraq. On Feb. 17, Husidic and Keserovic were arrested at the Sarajevo International Airport when trying to leave the country to join IS.
Meanwhile, Trako provided money to Keserovic and Husidic for their planned trip to Syria and Iraq, according to local reports.
According to BiH's security ministry, some 130 BiH citizens have gone to Syria to fight alongside IS. Forty-three of them were killed while around 50 of them are now back in the country. Enditem
