9 countries to attend puppetry festival in Vietnam

Xinhua, October 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Troupes from Vietnam and other nine countries will attend the fourth international puppetry festival to be held in Vietnam's capital Hanoi from Oct. 10 to Oct. 16.

Those troupes are from Russia, Britain, Germany, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Belgium and the Philippines, Vietnam's state-run news agency reported on Tuesday.

Apart from competing performances, participating troupes will perform in other localities in northern and central Vietnamese provinces, including Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Hai Duong and Vinh Phuc and Thanh Hoa, said Nguyen Dang Chuong, Head of the Performing Arts Department under Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in a press conference held in Hanoi on Tuesday.

Water puppetry, which is unique in Vietnam, is believed to have originated from the villages of the northern Red River Delta in the 11th century. Endi
