Cote d'Ivoire launches compensation process for war victims in western region

The compensation process for victims of the 2010-2011 post-election violence in Cote d'Ivoire's western region of Man was launched on Monday, a source from the National Social Cohesion Program (PNCS) said.

The PNCS Director General Mariatou Kone said her agency will compensate those who sustained serious injuries or those who lost their relatives.

Those who lost relatives will each receive a cheque of about 1,500 euros while the injured will be given medical and psychological treatment.

Madam Kone said the process will also involve sensitization program for peaceful elections among the population.

According to official sources, the post-election violence led to the death of at least 3,000 people and displacement of a million others. Enditem
