Bangladesh cricketer sentenced to jail on charges of torturing maid

Xinhua, October 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bangladesh national cricket team player Shahadat Hossain, who was suspended from cricket activities for allegedly torturing a housemaid, has been sent to jail.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Yusuf Hossain sent him to jail after rejecting Hossain's bail petition on Monday evening.

He submitted a bail petition before the court after his surrender on Monday morning.

Shahadat surrendered two days after police arrested his wife from a relative's house in connection with the case filed for torturing an about 11-year-old housemaid.

Hossian and his wife were on the run after being accused of torturing their minor housemaid since Sept. 6.

Bangladesh Cricket Board spokesman Jalal Yunus told reporters on Sept. 13 that "fast bowler Shahadat Hossain will remain suspended until the charges were settled." Endi
