Xinhua, October 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o- cha appointed the 200-member National Reform Steering Assembly to guide reforms of the country on Monday.

The National Reform Steering Assembly includes 80 military officers and 120 civilians, according to a royal gazette issued with a list of all the assembly members.

Named members of the assembly were, among others, Attorney General Trakul Vinichanaipak, former parliament president Chai Chidchob, former deputy premier Yutthasak Sasiprapa, former deputy premier Chidchai Wannasathit, former foreign minister Kasit Bhirom and former agriculture minister Pitipong Puengboon.

The assembly is obliged to compile and review opinions and guidelines pertaining to the planned reforms of the country. Its term will depend on the new constitution.

Gen Prayut earlier said that the nationwide election might be held by mid-2017.

Meanwhile, former Parliament President Mechai Ruchupan accepted a call by the prime minister to head a new Constitution Drafting Committee, following the scuttling of a charter by an already- dissolved National Reform Assembly last month. Endi
