Female Filipino lawmaker endorsed as vice presidential candidate

Xinhua, October 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III on Monday endorsed a female Filipino lawmaker as the ruling party's vice presidential candidate in the 2016 election.

Representative Leonor "Leni" Robredo of the eastern Camarines Sur province was declared as the running mate of former Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II, the ruling Liberal Party's presidential candidate.

Aquino expressed his confidence in Roxas-Robredo tandem, which he said would surely continue the reforms that his administration has started.

Robredo, 51, a first-term congresswoman, is the wife of former Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, who died in a plane crash in 2012.

According to local media's report, Senator Gregorio Honasan is Vice President Jejomar Binay's running mate in the 2016 election. Endi
