Tokyo stocks rise on U.S. stocks gains, TPP deal hopes

Tokyo stocks rose 1.58 percent on Monday as investor sentiment was lifted by gains in U.S. equities before the weekend as well as hopes for an agreement of 12-party Trans-Pacific Partnership trade negotiations.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 280.36 points, from Friday at 18,005.49. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 19.00 points, or 1.31 percent, higher at 1,463.92.

Gainers were led by mining, wholesale trade and pharmaceuticals.

The turnover was 2,002.97 billion yen (about 16.68 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
