1st LD: Australian police believe Sydney shooting linked to terrorism

Xinhua, October 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Australian police said on Saturday that the shooting of a civilian police employee by a 15-year-old gunman near a Sydney police station was linked to terrorism.

"We believe his actions were politically motivated and therefore linked to terrorism," New South Wales police commissioner Andrew Scipione told reporters.

He said the teenager was born in Iran and had Iraqi-Kurdish background.

The police worker was shot at close range on Friday afternoon in the street outside Parramatta's police station in western Sydney.

The gunman was shot dead in an exchange of fire with police. Endi
