The Syrian government agreed on the plan recently put forward by the UN special envoy to Syria, which calls for consultations and discussions with Syrian parties in four thematic working groups, Syria's Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem told the UN General Assembly on Friday.
During his speech at the UN headquarters in New York, al-Moallem declared the Syrian government consented on participating in the consultations and discussions that have been proposed by UN envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura. (Syria-Consultation)

GUATEMALA CITY -- At least nine people were dead and about 600 missing in a landslide that buried more than 100 homes in southern Guatemala, emergency services said on Friday.
Hundreds of rescue workers dug through sludge and rocks to spot survivors of the landslide which occurred Thursday night following heavy rains in the El Cambray II neighborhood of the town of Santa Catarina Pinula, 15 km south of the capital Guatemala City, according to daily newspaper Prensa Libre. ABUJA -- Three heavy explosions jolted the Nigerian capital Abuja late Friday, causing fears for a high number of casualties, local sources said.
A heavy explosion first occurred near a local police station in Kuje, a suburb of the Nigerian capital city, and was followed 15 minutes later by another blast inside the town's main market. A third explosion was heard at a bus station in Nyanya on the outskirts of Abuja. (Nigeria-Explosion)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday pressured Republican-controlled Congress to pass the government funding bill for the current fiscal year by warning not to sign another stopgap funding bill like Congress sent earlier this week.
