(Special for CAFS)Uganda's electoral body announces new dates for presidential candidates' nomination

Xinhua, October 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Uganda's Electoral Commission (EC) on Friday announced new dates for the nomination of the presidential candidates in the country's general elections scheduled for early next year.

Badru Kiggundu, the EC chairperson, told reporters that the commission postponed the nominations date to Nov. 3-4 from the earlier scheduled Oct. 5-6 in order to comply with the new electoral law changes.

Under the EC revised political roadmap, the polling dates will be held between Feb. 12 and March 12. The presidential campaigns will run from next month to early February 10, 2016, he said.

At least six presidential candidates out of the 49 who picked the presidential nomination forms managed to return them by the Sept. 29 deadline.

The presidential candidates include incumbent President, Yoweri Museveni, former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, among others. Endit
