The 30th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) ended on Friday with all 32 draft resolutions adopted by council members.
"From the texts we adopted, 21 texts have been by consensus, including a resolution on promoting reconciliation and accountability in human rights in Sri Lanka, and of course we've also voted on resolutions, for instance on the question of the death penalty," said UNHRC president Joachim Rucker.
Rucker furthermore highlighted how consensus is pivotal in securing resolution-implementation while outlining the importance of state cooperation.
Two presidential statements were also adopted during the three-week period, namely one of the reports of the advisory committee and one on promoting the right to health through enhancing capacity building against pandemics.
"I'm particularly pleased that the council also adopted a decision in follow-up to my presidential statement in enhancing the efficiency of the Human Rights Council," Rucker added.
Important panel discussions have also taken place on issues of concern to the international community, "for instance just to name a few, on good governance, on human rights and drugs and also on gender integration," Rucker explained.
He also mentioned the migration and refugee situation, as "human rights play a major role in this discussion as human rights violations and abuses are often root causes, are often the reasons why people flee their countries of origin."
The 30th session of the UNHRC took place between Sept. 14 and Oct. 2 in Geneva's Palais des Nations. Endit
