Xinhua, September 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

A migrant was killed on Tuesday night after being hit by a train in the channel Tunnel in northern France, bringing the death toll of people who lost their lives while trying to cross to Britain to 13, local authorities said.

A security guard found dead a young man after being hit by freight shuttle, Calais prefecture said.

The new victim came from Eritrea seeking better life condition in Britain, it added.

About 3,500 migrants who fled war and poverty in their native countries in the Middle East and Africa are looking to reach Britain or Germany, Europe's rich states in the hope of opening a new chapter in their lives.

Last week, interior ministers agreed on a plan to distribute 120,000 refugees mainly from Syria and Iraq across the European Bloc. In Paris, up to 30,000 asylum seekers were expected to come over the next two years. Endit
