Venus Williams into Wuhan Open quarterfinal

Xinhua, September 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Venus Williams eased into the quarter-finals of the Wuhan Open with a straight-set win over Carla Suarez Navarro on Wednesday.

Williams continued her fine form by swatting aside world No.10 Suarez Navarro 6-3, 6-4.

On Tuesday, Williams saw off Julia Goerges to register the 700th match win of her career. And the milestone remained a hot topic of conversation 24 hours later.

"I'm not sure if it's my lucky number - that's 11, but it's pretty amazing to get to 700 wins," Venus said in her on-court interview. "I'm happy to finally be playing in Wuhan and performing so well here."

Having already accounted for No.7-ranked Agnieszka Radwanska in the first round, Williams now has six victories over members of the top 10 to her name in 2015 - her highest tally since 2009.

She will likely to face top seed Simona Halep next round if the Romanian can get the better of qualifier Johanna Konta. Endi
