Ivanovic no match to Muguruza at Wuhan Open

Xinhua, September 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Garbine Muguruza produced a spectacular mid-match turnaround to stun Ana Ivanovic and take her place in the quarter-finals of the Wuhan Open on Wednesday.

After dropping a tight first set, Muguruza, No. 5 seed, elevated her game to another level, hurtling towards a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ivanovic, No. 9 seed.

"I was expecting a difficult match. In the first set I think Ana was playing good. I was playing good also," Muguruza said. "But I don't know, in the important moments I didn't find my best level.

"In the second and the third I found my way, and my tennis level was great. So I'm very happy with my improvement through in the match."

Next she will face either Kristina Mladenovic or Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.

Victory there and Muguruza will take a significant step towards the WTA Finals in Singapore.

"I have no idea. I don't know how's it going," she said when asked about her chances of reaching the Finals. "I don't know how much is the difference or whatever.

"If I go, it's going to be great. If not, it's also going to be good. I am not going to be that obsessed with Singapore. I'm doing well. Definitely I'm trying to go, but I just want to stay calm." Endi
