EU gives Mali 10 mln euros to promote food security

The European Union (EU) has disbursed 10 million euros to Mali to support a project aimed at fighting against food and nutritional insecurity in the northern part of the country, an official source said Tuesday.

The project dubbed "support for resilience of vulnerable populations in northern Mali," aims to restore means of existence and reinforce the production capacity of small scale farmers in the region.

It will be implemented by the World Food Program and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, and will directly benefit 180,000 farmers, the statement said.

The project will enable small scale producers to access bigger markets, hence increasing their income, it said.

"The results will be achieved through rehabilitation of farming, animal and fishing infrastructures, provision of production inputs as well as training of farmers. Endit
