Indian authorities Tuesday sent a bomb squad to the Mumbai international airport after it received a threat call Monday mid-night, said police.

An unknown person called a landline number of the airport and spoke to an airport staffer, saying he heard five people talking about attack at Mumbai airport and hotel Taj with explosive laden 16 hired vehicles, said police.

Described as a "specific threat", the agencies concerned beefed up security at these locations.

The incident came on the eve of the quantum of sentencing for the 12 convicted for a Mumbai serial train blasts in 2006, scheduled to be pronounced on Wednesday.

There are two Taj hotels in Mumbai, one near the airport another in downtown Mumbai. The second came under terrorist attack in November 2008.

Meanwhile, Indian intelligence officials said the Islamic State terrorists could plan attacks in the capital New Delhi and the western state of Rajasthan.

Security alert against terror attacks comes frequently in India. Endi
