Syrian airstrikes kill 15 in IS-held city

Xinhua, September 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 15 civilians were killed and 50 others wounded Monday during Syrian airstrikes against the Islamic State (IS)-held city of Mayadeen in eastern Syria, a monitor group reported.

The warplanes struck a covered marketplace in Mayadeen which is controlled by IS militants in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour, large swathes of which had fell to the terror-labeled group over the past year, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The death toll is likely to rise due to the number of critically wounded people, the UK-based watchdog group added.

The IS has controlled large swathes of the oil-rich province of Deir al-Zour, due to its oil fields and proximity to Iraq, where the terror group also enjoys considerable sway. Endit
