Quake-hit Chile receives donation from China

Xinhua, September 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Chilean government received 300,000 U.S. dollars from China as emergency humanitarian assistance after the South American country was hit by an earthquake, officials said.

According to Chile's National Office of Emergencies, at least 11 people were killed and nine others injured when an 8.4-magnitude earthquake struck on Sept. 16.

On behalf of the Chilean president, acting Foreign Minister Edgardo Riveros Marin thanked the Chinese government, saying the act reflects the excellent level of bilateral relations and the affection between the two countries.

Delivered by the Chinese ambassador to Chile, the money will be deposited in a current account specially set up for aid.

Officials in the Chinese Embassy also donated 15,000 U.S. dollars on Monday to help the victims in northern Chile, according to the Chilean Foreign Ministry.

In addition, the Chinese Red Cross made a donation of 30,000 dollars to its Chilean counterpart. Endi
