-- Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller is the new head of the Volkswagen Group. As successor to Martin Winterkorn who had vacated his post because of the scandal over manipulated emission levels on Wednesday, Mueller must push forward clarification of the emission scandal, motivate employees and regain lost trust for the company.

-- In anticipation of an understanding between the German government and the premiers of the German states on measures to tackle the influx of refugees, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced an increase in the federal funding on Thursday in her government statement.

-- German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble presented German states representatives on Thursday at the refugee summit at the Chancellery the offer to transfer the main financial responsibility to the government. According to the states representatives, the government wants to transfer over 4.1 billion euros to the states in 2016. Endit
