Australian dollar rises on Friday

The Australian dollar surged past 70 U.S. cents in overnight trading on Friday.

The local unit is trading at 70.01 U.S. cents, up from 69.80 U. S. cents on Thursday.

The currency briefly dropped to 69.39 U.S. cents.
