Syrian army uses new Russian jets in striking IS: monitor

Xinhua, September 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Syrian air force used newly-received Russian war jets in striking positions of the Islamic State (IS) militants near a besieged airfield in Aleppo province in northern Syria, a monitor group reported Thursday.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said airstrikes started this week and coincided with ground attacks against the IS that is surrounding and attempting to storm Koerce.

Russian leadership has recently upped its military aid to the Syrian military forces, which reflects Moscow's determination to intervene more in the Syrian conflict.

Russian officials have recently stressed that Moscow will continue providing military aid, including specialists, to Damascus. They said the aid aims at combating terrorism in accordance with international law. Endit
