S.Korea to deploy drones on frontline units for surveillance of DPRK troops

Xinhua, September 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

South Korea's arms acquisition agency said Wednesday that drones will be deployed to frontline units for surveillance of military activity of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said in a statement that it held a celebration with local drone maker UCON System to mark the first delivery of unmanned aerial vehicle, developed by the company.

The UAV, named Remoeye-002B, will be deployed to frontline army units and Marine Corps troops along the land and sea borders from this year to 2017.

The mini-drone, which measures 1.8 meters wide and 1.4 meters long and weighs 3.4 kilograms, can conduct the surveillance mission for more than an hour at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

It can shoot images within a radius of 10 kilometers day and night, and the images can be transmitted on a real-time basis.

The drone had been developed with an indigenous technology for three years from 2012, the arms procurement agency said, noting that there was a high possibility for the drone to be exported due to great capability. Endi
