Xinhua, September 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

About 38 Taliban militants have been killed amid operations waged by Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) since early Tuesday, said the country's interior ministry on Wednesday morning.

"The ANSF launched cleanup operations to clean some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan in Nangarhar, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Sari Pul, Kandahar, Ghazni, Herat and Helmand provinces over the past 24 hours. As a result 38 armed insurgents were killed and eight others were wounded." the ministry said in a statement.

The ANSF also discovered and confiscated ammunition during the above operations, the statement added.

The statement did not disclose whether there were any casualties on the side of security forces.

"The Ministry of Interior Affairs appreciates the ANSF operations to eliminate the terrorists' sanctuaries, and this is a good step toward improving the security and stability," the statement noted.

The Taliban militant group, which has been waging an insurgency of more than one decade, has yet to make comments. Endi
