UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday met with Namibian President Hage Geingob on such issues as sustainable development and climate change.
The meeting took place as the United Nations is scheduled to convene a summit on Friday to adopt the Sustainable Development Goals, which are expected to serve as a blueprint for the global development for the next 15 years.
"They discussed steps to tackle poverty and inequality, and Namibia's leadership in furthering good governance and anti-corruption measures," UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters here after the meeting.
"They agreed on the importance of advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and addressing climate change," the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the secretary-general also acknowledged the leadership of Namibia in promoting gender equality and women's empowerment, he added. Endi
