Atletico Madrid had to work hard before claiming their fourth win of the season on Tuesday night.
Two goals from Antoine Griezmann decided a tight game against local rivals, Getafe in a match which at times was like a game of chess against two were well organized sides.
The Frenchman was on hand to resolve what at times looked more like a game of chess than football, netting in the fourth minute with a right foot shot following a corner and in the last minute of the game after a pass from Jackson Martinez.
The win gives Atletico 12 points, putting them level with league leaders, FC Barcelona who play away to Celta Vigo on Wednesday.
Valencia's mediocre start to the season continued as they lost 2-0 away to Espanyol. Victor Alvarez's 18th minute goal gave Espanyol their third win of the season and their second triumph in just four days.
Meanwhile Valencia's defeat increases the pressure on coach Nuno Espiritu Santo who had to listen to the fans in Valencia's Mestalla Stadium call for him to leave their club during their 0-0 draw against Betis on Saturday.
Imanol Agirretxe scored a hat-trick as Real Sociedad won 3-0 in Granada to give David Moyes' side their first win of the season and take a lot of pressure off the former Manchester United boss.
Agirretxe netted his second goal in four days to put Real Sociedad ahead away to Granada after just seven minutes and doubled his tally on the night just after the half hour after some woeful defending.
Granada rarely looked like getting back on level terms and the big striker completed his hat-trick with a right foot shot 11 minutes from time. Endit
