Macao's giant panda Shu Xiang to return to mainland for breeding plan

Xinhua, September 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

A male panda given by the Chinese central government to the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will return to the mainland for a national breeding program in November, Secretary for Administration and Justice the Macao SAR Chan Hoi Fan said Tuesday.

The SAR government will organize a farewell ceremony for "Shu Xiang" who has been living in Macao since 2010 as gifts for the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Macao's return to China.

Before leaving for the mainland, "Shu Xiang" would be kept alone for a 30-day quarantine, according to Chan.

The departure date would be confirmed with the mainland departments, Chan told reporters after a meeting. Endi
