Iran ready help neighbor countries to eliminate terrorism: Rouhani

Iran is ready to offer help to its neighbors and other regional countries to eliminate the threats of terrorism, President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday, as the country marked the 34th anniversary of the war with neighboring Iraq.

Rouhani said Iran is ready to help other regional states upon their request, as Iran has helped the Syrian and Iraqi governments in the fight against terrorism.

"The army of the Islamic republic is the biggest anti-terror armed forces and the neighboring states can rely on Iran in their struggle against terrorism," he said.

Units of Iran's armed forces, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and the Basij militia voluntary forces, took part in a large-scale military parade Tuesday to display the military capabilities of the Islamic Republic and its achievements.

Top Iranian military officials as well as the military attaches of foreign countries attended the ceremony.

The Iran-Iraq war, lasting from September 1980 to August 1988, ended at a great cost of lives and economic damage to the two countries. Half a million Iraqi and Iranian soldiers as well as civilians are believed to have died in the war, with many more injured.

On Tuesday, a number of Iranian senior commanders hailed Iran's military capabilities to counter threats particularly posed by terrorism.

Commander of the Iranian army Major General Ataollah Salehi said that the Islamic Republic's armed forces are fully ready to defend the country in the face of enemy threats, according to Press TV.

The enemy is attempting to destabilize the region by supporting terrorist groups and inciting disputes among regional countries, Salehi said.

Iran would give a crushing response to the terrorist groups and aggressors on the country, he said.

Meanwhile, Commander of Iran's army ground force, Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan, said that the terrorist groups operating in neighboring countries would face Iran's crushing response if they attempt to cross the borders into Iran.

Iran has already announced that if the Islamic State militants approach near any area about 40 km from the country's borders, Tehran will definitely intervene and confront them, Pourdastan was quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency on the sidelines of the ceremony marking the anniversary of Iran-Iraq war.

"We closely monitor them (the terrorist groups), and we have complete supremacy over them whether in Iraq or in Afghanistan," Pourdastan said.

Addressing the ceremony, Rouhani also hailed what he called the "resistance and achievements" of Iran in the nuclear talks concluded in July by an agreement between Iran and the world's major powers.

The military might of Iran is aimed at deterring purposes and his country will not hesitate to respond firmly to any aggression, said Rouhani. Endit
