Dozens of Palestinians protested on Tuesday outside the Arab League headquarters in Cairo against the ongoing Israeli aggression in Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, which has been condemned by most Muslim countries worldwide.
The peaceful protesters, including young men and women as well as many children, raised posters of the mosque and held banners reading, "Aqsa represents dignity," "Silence is shame," "We are coming for you Aqsa," and others.
"We protest today the Israeli aggression against Al-Aqsa Mosque and our brothers and sisters there, wishing one day we liberate them and prevent the Jews from breaking into the mosque," Helena Ayman, a Palestinian young woman who has been living in Egypt for two years, told Xinhua.
She regretted what she referred to as "silence" of the Arab world and the international community on the recent Israeli assaults of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Over the past few days, Israeli troops broke into Al-Aqsa Mosque and injured dozens of Palestinian worshippers who attempted to block their way.
On Tuesday, the Israeli authorities allowed Jewish settlers of Jerusalem to break into the mosque under their protection, outlawing the Palestinians who guard the mosque and try to prevent their entrance.
Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam, is located in the Old City of Jerusalem, which is a major part of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict as both sides claim it as their eternal capital city.
The protest outside the Arab League in Cairo calls for an immediate Arab action against the ongoing Israeli violations in the mosque that is considered a holy shrine for Muslims around the globe.
After meeting with French President Francois Hollande in Paris, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas warned Tuesday that the recurrent clashes in the mosque might lead to "an intifida (uprising) which we don't want."
The Israeli violations in Al-Aqsa Mosque have been condemned by most Arab and Muslim states, parliaments, organizations, syndicates as well as human rights groups.
Al-Azhar, the Cairo-based highest and most prestigious seat of learning in Sunni Islam, condemned the Israeli aggressions on the mosque and expressed support for those Palestinians facing assaults while guarding the holy site. Endit
